The 8th and 9th day of LC Prigen

•February 2, 2009 • 1 Comment

This is the last day of our conference. Huhuhu.. we just keep going on our last performancce at night. After presented our poster, some of us were sleeping, some were buying souvenirs, some were making the power point for performance. Oh, what a boring day but it’s gonna make us miss each other. >.<
When the night comes, we were prearing for the performance. We were all wearing T-Shirt from Kaliandra and the girls were using make up! My friends all look different than usual, and me either. Hwehe.. before we begin, we took pictures together and laugh uncontrollably.
We starts our party with the impression from each participants. Everybody show that they satisfied with the programme. We love the food, love everybody, and wanna meet again when we become succesful person! Yeah, we must be succesful person! Then, the performances from each participants represent our region. When the song was from Sheila On 7 “”, I was gonna cry, but it stopped because my friends sing loudly and happily.
After that we have a big dinner with nasi tumpeng, a lot of snacks, and cakes. Before we eat the meals, we have a plan to give surprise to Mbak Yesi. Nenek pretended to faint when we want to eat, when Mbak Yesi worried Nenek and tried to give her lotion in order to waking her up, we bring our cake and surprised her that we have cake tonight! Woa, Mbak Yesi cried! Yeah, we did it! We did it! ^0^
Finally we ate together, we ate so much food, so much cake. Oh, we share our cake with Leeds’ students too (because they share their cake for us too in the 7th day).
At 10 PM, some of us wanna sleep in bedroom because some of us have to go home early in the morning (Nenek, Uni Dian, Richie, and Ka Dedi). But, I, Cung, Ayi, Ka Difa, Teh Uye, and Tifta, were sleeping in the pendopo Mahameru. We just want to spent night together before we go home. Hiks..
In the morning, I heard Richie woken us up, but none of us want to wake up. Hehe.. then, at 6, suddenly Richie took our blanket, reached our hands and kiss us one by one. I just confused because he and Ka Dedi said goodbye in the early morning when we even have not brushed our teeth yet! It was ridiculuos! -.-
But, before they four go to the airport, we were all hugging each other, crying together (Oh, I could not even saying anything to them who will leave us first to go home). I just cried, smile with cried, hug with cried, hiks..huahua.. finally, the car arried and took them 4 away… after that, the rest of us just went to our room and prepared to go home. At 8, we only have breakfast with 12 people, oh, it was so quiet and incomplete. -.-
At 11, our travel agency car arrived and took us to Mirota the acesories shop in Surabaya. After we satisfied to buy everything, we went to Gubeng train station. In this station, I dissapointed with Eda Citra, because she didn’t say goodbye to me. Yeah, maybe she doesn’t want seeing me cry for her. Hwehe..
In this station, there were I, Cung, Ka Difa, Ka Mel, Teh Uye, Teh Adhe, and Tifta. It was still 1 Pm, and our train go at 3 (Tifta were going to Jogja), 4 (Ka Difa and Ka Mel were going to Jakarta), 5 (I and Cung were going to Malang) and 6 PM (teh Uye and Teh Adhe were going to Bandung). So, we had lunch first in fast food café. Then, we were moving to the waiting bench beside the rail station to wait our train.
While we were waiting, we share stories in Prigen, and our impression to each other. We laughed uncontrolably and didn’t care with people around us. Oh, it was so fun! I will never forget this moment. Time run fast, it almost at 3 PM, and Tifta must back to Jogja. He asked my wooden bracelet, ok then I gave it to him as gift.
Woa, you know what, Tifta’s face just like a boy who will cry for her mother! Yes, we also sad and cried when we let him go. Hiks…
We continued our sharing time and laugh again. But, time was running out, it was 4 PM, and we must let Ka Difa and Ka Mel go to Jakarta. Hiks… we cried again. Then it was 5 PM and it was my turn with Cung to go home. Hiks.. those two girls from Bandung were let us go but it was just like on the movie, I waved my hands out the window to them and they also cried as long the train moves. Woa..hiks…hiks… in this moment like this, even Cung could cry! In the train, we were so quiet and sad to separated from our beloved friends. There will no more fun till we meet again and show our succeed in the future.

Day 7 in LC Prigen, 070808 (“happy Earth”!)

•September 10, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Ok, I would tell you about what we got today..

Happy earth!! do you know what? It’s acronym of what the makers do to make their poster good to see.

(ok, I’ll tell you letter what is Happy Earth! hahahaha)

Today we have to make so many assignments!! So many discussions.. So hard to think everything.. I’m so tired but still have to..
I didn’t allowed myself to get bored and doesn’t care about it, I have to control myself. Yeah, it’s the most difficult thing to do, that is to control ourselves in mind first!
Btw, I can respect and adore my team, because once again, they’re so smart and they’re so solid. Thank you friends, I really appreciate what you have done for our team.

Day 6 in LC Prigen, 060808 (Leader and Dreams)

•August 30, 2008 • Leave a Comment

day 6.. huff.. we are so tired.. so many assignments to do.. so many seminars..

today, we’ve got seminar from Mr. Jimmy again. it’s about the Leader should do. Leader must be energetic. He’s not allowed to show his sadness to anyone. hehehehe.. except to one’s he love.. (??) that’s why, Mr. Jimmy gave us tips how to keep motivated, it’s by “autosuggestion” to ourselves and talk to ourselves that we are extraordinary and so precious in God’s eyes.. Autosuggestion is about changing our mindset in positive ways and activate our subconcius mind. So, if you want to do what you wanna do, don’t care about what people said! they who don’t support don’t have any relation to your success in the future.. except who really support you..
he also must have entrepreneurship ability, it’s about mindset to selfsupporting, (mandiri..). leader must take action, but he have to believe to see first before act. not see first then believe. he also should work smart by delegating and networking, and the most important thing is, he has to decide what he should do..
he has to take chances and always use synergy to gain power..

so, it’s all about our mindset, self-value, DREAMS.. If you have dreams, make it specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time range (SMART), the most important thing is, visualize it!

Go for your Dreams..!!
“Fight for your dreams!!” (this is from a really special friend in mine.. ^_^)

Day 5 in LC Prigen 2008, 050808

Actually, I didn’t make a real diary for day 5 in LC.. But, I’ll make it for you.! Hehehe…

In the fifth day, we met Mrs. Sulastri from Sugyopranoto University Semarang. She talked about how to be proactive and leadership style. Being proactive is related with taking risks, inisiative, taking chances, and keep moving forward whatever difficulties we had. She also gave us anger management material, it related with our mood, our feeling at present, and our patience. About leadership style, we have seminar, discussion, and debate. Oh, I love my “ABCD” team, there are, Ami (me!), Bayu, Citra, n Dedi. Yow, yow, yow, if you have debate, just give it to Citra n Dedi! hehehe…

to be proactive means that we have to realize about our surrounding and control ourselves. We need to be proactive if we want to reach our dreams. Believe your dreams, achieve it, and dedicate to it!!

Mrs. Sulastri gave us a video about the condition of Indonesia, I feel so sad and I want it or not, I have to take action! yeah, it’s for you too!

Bytheway, we have discussion and mindmapping again.. Oww… so tired..T_T but, I can enjoy to discuss with my team, because I realize that they’re so precious and their thought is brillliant!

On this day, we’ve got full session with Mr. Jimmy Dimas. He gave us about how to be an influence leader, changing mindset, motivation, what’s leader ability, what leaders should do, type of personality, doing test and games, we can know each better, self reflection, making goals, consultation. This session really makes us on fire!! It was so interactive and can change our mindset too. yeah, It’s all about mindset if you wanna succeed..

I’m so happy this day, because I can know myself and my friends personality better. I realize that each of us is unique. After this session, I can learn to respect others better. then, I can control myself in discussion with my team, Venus.

“Before we can lead others, we have to lead ourselves first. By making self reflection and making goals, it’s the first step before we take a step to be a leader.”

Day 3 in LC Prigen 2008

•August 26, 2008 • Leave a Comment

Today I was very excited because the lecturer is Bu Shinta. When breakfast, Bu Shinta came and I was very excited to see her. Then, Bu Shinta gave the 360 degree leader like she gave in LKTD few days ago in ma Chung University. 360 degree leader means that we have to balance our relationship with senior, junior, and our colleagues. Bu Shinta also remind us that we must have mentors and role models to be succeed in life. Our mentor can be our lecturers, our parents, or our friends. Our role model, for example, mother Theressa, Mahatma Gandhi, etc.

Then we had sharing session with the Leed’s students from UK. There are so many that I’ve got there about British culture, but there are some similarities too. The different is that they so mandiri about their life and started to work since they can.

We had mind mapping too. And I think to discuss a serious problem, we need more patient to listen others and write some possible ideas quickly in mind map. One thing that I’ve got from mind map is, we have to find the cause of every problem and find the cause again of every cause to find what actually the cause is. So, it’s a kind of finding something deeply and specifically.

This session, once again, make me realize that we have to be a 360degree leader to support our team. but, i’m a litle bit boring when the discusion comes, i almost angry with my friends in the team because they are so melancolic and always explain in details. i’m sorry friends, I’m not the type who like details. T_T
Today, I found that one of my friends are the tourism ambassador of Manado. Wow, it’s so cool.. I never dream before to know directly the tourism ambassador. I’m so impress by him because he can dance his traditional dance and went to Europe for twice. Hmm..i’m so proud to hear that and happy to be his friend. I also happy to know Citra as Duta Bahasa SumUt! Wow…once again it’s amazing.

Day 2 of LC, 020808, by Ami

in the second day, we had outbound. The first, giving the ball. The rules are everybody will throw the ball by saying everyone’s name. we did this game in limited time. We’ve done it in 27 seconds for 16 people. It has some essential: focus and concentrate with the goal; team work; understand the capacity of each member; self awareness; having commitment to the agreement.

2nd, rope activities. Wow, it’s quite interesting. For the two first rope, I didn’t have any difficulties, but in the Tarzan’s rope, I have difficulties to convince my self to do like Tarzan. Maybe it was about more than 5 minutes I didn’t move to the next rope, I’ve just stacked at up, but then I collected my brave to jump and wou….! I can do like tarzan but with so bad and embarrassing. On the next ropes, I can do almost well done and I like to ride Flying Fox, it’s so very interesting and I shouted to show my satisfy. It’s how you motivate yourself and believe in yourself.

3rd, trees fall. Oh my God, it’s really a game that I hate and I promise not to do it again. Once, I did it in PWEC, now I did it here. When Cung asked me to be the first, I’ve rejected and actually I almost cry.. hiks.. I don’t care when so many people looked at me and started to think that I’m child alike,,,I just don’t care because I promise no to do it again. Finally, I fell but badly. Actually, there are some values on this game. 1st, everybody have strength and weaknesses; if you want to fall, just fall, because if not, you’ll bother others; be brave and just do it; analyze the problem inside you when you want to fell and doesn’t feel scared.

4th, tarantula. We moved a chair with a place of water on it by rope. It has some values. Separate the responsible and understand others; analyze the problem and the strategy; be responsible for your part.

5th, war game. The rules of the game is like this, you have a president to command, soldiers as much as you have, two people to be the prisoner. The soldiers have responsibility to save the prisoners by crossing the field that full of bomb with closing his eyes and bring back the prisoners. The values are, analyze the goal and strategy; trust your friend to lead your way; focus on goal and instruction; delegate others; the order must clear and measurable.

6th, crossing the bamboo on the surface of water.

7th, spider web. Strategy; think everyone’s ability; think others; trust your team.

8th, pingpong game. Deliver a pingpong with parts of bamboo. It needs patient to do it ‘till our goal; understand each other; strategy.

9th, broken pipe. We have to fill the pipe with water until the ball comes out. In this game, none of us can do that. It because the holes in the pipe are so many and it makes the water always comes out.

10th, sharing session about what our strength and weakness in other’s point of view. It really works to know it deeply and can be our reflection. After that we were drawing a plant that represent you and write your strength and weakness in paper and stick it on the part of your plant that represents you.

Day 1 of LC in Prigen by Ami

This is for the first time I went to somewhere by bus without my parents. I and Cung should go to Prigen to attend the Leadership Conference by VDMS. It’s a bit ridiculous when we arrive because we are the only participants who are the nearest with the location. We arrived at Prigen by only an hour trip by bus.

When we arrived we met 14 participants from Medan, Jogjakarta, Jakarta, Bandung, and Manado. We got lunch right after we arrived at 12.30. Before lunch, all the participants got to know each other and the situation was getting “icebreaking” without order.

After lunch, we gathered in Pendopo and follow our first activity some welcome speech from Mr. Edwin Kisman as the director of VDMS in Indonesia. We’ve got something that decision is the steps in process to reach something. So, we have to train and practice. He said that in the 21st century is conceptual age/era, so human or leaders should balance their left and right brain capacity.

From this conference, I’ve got some ideas to make icebreaking activity. First, it called “left and brain coordination activity”. We have to move our finger in contrast way to train left and right brain coordination. It’s interesting because we was so confused to move our finger together in contrast way (like Steven did). Second, it called “hunter, bushfire, and earthquake”. When the instructor say “hunter”, there should be two people hold hand each other face to face with one person be the bird (the bird should find the shelter). When “bushfire” said, the two people try to find another “bird”. When “earthquake”, the two people find another person to be his couple. It’s interesting because if there’s someone who doesn’t have shelter or couple, he must be punished. Third, it called “guess your name”. Each person will have a name on their back, and then he must guess who he is by asking other person by yes or no question. It’s interesting because not all of people can guess their name with limited information.

After icebreaking, we had debate. It’s about decision warming up game. The task is about to make decision who deserve to be in the lifeboat when Titanic starts to sink. There are 15 names and we should choose some of them. First, we should choose 5 by discussing only in pairs. Then, we discuss to decide 5 by 4 people. Then, once again we discuss 3 with 8 persons. It’s quite difficult to decide because there are a lot of aspects that we have to consider about other who deserve to be in the lifeboat. Then, we debate with other group. Mr. Kus and Mr. Edwin were so impressed with our debate because we done the debate with excellent and make  good reasons for each group and try to defend each opinion. Finally, there isn’t the winner, all of us are the winner.

From this debate activity, we’ve got a lot about what leaders should have and be. The most words that really inspiring me is from Firman, that leaders should have wisdom. When leaders got stuck in a difficult problem or situation, it doesn’t about black and white anymore, it should be grey between it. It means that we need a heart to make right decision for all. I got something from Ayi too about wisdom, “more people, more heads, and more wisdom in it”. by this activity, we know that leaders should listen first before speak and make decision. It’s not only theory, but we learn to practice here in Prigen.

But, I get something else from this activity. Sometimes we should forget our background for a while when we have to make decision for humanity case. If it’s about life or death many people, we should make priority by our heart. Sometimes our leader in the 21st century doesn’t do that, sometimes they still think about themselves and doesn’t want to think others. If it’s about someone’s life, make decision by your heart!

This activity also teach me that leaders should control their emotion, because the succeed of a leader depends on their attitude to face people. They also should future minded or visionary people.

The 3rd VDMS Leadership Conference 1-9 August 2008 at Kaliandra, Prigen, East Java.
